Welcome to The Fresh Find! My name is Kristin and I couldn’t be happier that you are here!
I started this blog in the Fall of 2011 to create a space that could allow me to discover my passions and track my journey. I graduated from UCLA in June 2011 and hit the ‘Crap, my life just started.’ feeling. There were so many changes happening– a new apartment, a new area, a new job. Emotions were all awry when my relationships changed and I realized I wasn’t living with my best friends anymore (still had one!), or at least living down the street from them.
I was in search of finding who I was and who I wanted to be. I wanted to grind down to the core of my passions and spend time doing what I loved. Work was work, and it had to be done. But there wasn’t any reason I couldn’t spend my free time enjoying and loving every minute possible. I knew my interests stemmed in health and nutrition, but I wasn’t sure where this blog would take me.
For awhile, nobody knew about the blog but me and maybe a few others. One afternoon, I was making a Black Bean and Corn Quinoa salad for a party, which would be my first post, and I was taking pictures and dancing around in the kitchen. I was so incredibly happy. This is when I realized that my blog might become an outlet and also an incentive to continue to engage in activities that I loved. Eventually, I told my friends and my parents about the blog, and it slowly became more public.
I am so grateful for the path that this blog has taken me on. It allows me to combine my love for health, nutrition, cooking and photography in one space. I am definitely a ‘numbers’ person and always have been, so the writing aspect has been a challenge for me, but I am learning. My blog has developed and evolved and I can only hope that it is a reflection of who I have become in the last year.
So, a little about me. I grew up in Northern California and made my way down to the beautiful and lively campus of UCLA. In the beginning of 2012, I decided I needed a change– I am young and not tied down, so what better time than now? Just a few months ago, I packed up in my little Rav4, and drove halfway across the country and settled in Austin, TX. You can read about my move here. I have begun to settle in here and I am in love with this city. I have be graciously accepted into the Austin Food Blogger’s Alliance and I can’t wait to see where it takes me. I love country music, being outdoors, yoga, football, wine tasting and traveling!
I am an advocate of living a healthy and active lifestyle. I believe that being healthy is a is a matter of being healthy on the inside and outside. By fueling your body with natural foods and products, and maintaining an active lifestyle, you are supporting your body for the present and also the future.
I don’t work out and eat healthy to ‘be skinny’ or to ‘lose weight’. I do it because the sweat, the endorphins, and the fresh food gives me energy and makes me feel good. When I feel good, I am happy. Lastly, by participating in hobbies and activities I love, serotonin gets pumping and I can thrive… and so can you. In order to be the best you can be, you need to focus on yourself internally and let that inner beauty shine through. And don’t ever forget to smile.
On here, you will find simple and healthy recipes, health tips and random blurbs from me. I hope you stick around to see where my journey takes me. If you have any questions or want to talk, please don’t hesitate to contact me. It makes me so happy to hear that people are reading, so please feel free to comment or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
I couldn’t be more thankful for the support of my parents, my family and my friends. It truly means the world to me.
